A case of protracted malaria caused by Plasmodium falciparum

Currently, the problem of imported infections remains a global public health concern. According to the International Tourism Organization, there are about 900 million international tourist trips in the world each year. At the same time, about one third of tourists from developed countries visit countries with tropical climates and low economic levels. When returning from trips to countries with tropical climates, travelers often seek medical attention for various illnesses, primarily gastrointestinal tract damage, skin lesions, and fever. Fever is one of the symptoms of malaria, which is a vector-borne protozoal disease with a cyclical course and potential for recurrence. The article presents a clinical observation of a 35-year-old woman who, after visiting the Republic of Guinea, came to the State Budgetary Institution of Health Care Infectious Clinical Hospital No 1 with complaints of fever, marked weakness, and muscle wasting. The diagnostic search and differential diagnosis are described in detail, the expediency of extended laboratory investigation to establish the etiologic agent, including modern molecular genetic methods of investigation is shown. The therapeutic tactics of patient management taking into account the diagnosis of Malaria caused by Plasmodium falciparum, prolonged course is given. Key words: tropical malaria, treatment, fever, thick smear
