Ayurvedic Management of Vata-Pitta Jihwakantak (~Fissured Tongue): A Case Study
Abstract Fissured tongue is a benign condition affecting the top surface of the tongue. There may also be small furrows or fissures across the surface, causing the tongue to have a wrinkled appearance. Symptoms may be followed as pain, burning sensation, and loss of taste. Acharya Vagbhata has mentioned various pathological conditions of tongue under the name jihwakantak (~tongue inflammation disorder). This case report presents the successful management of a patient diagnosed with Vata-pitta jihwakantak (~vata-pitta vitiated tongue inflammation disorder) through a comprehensive Ayurvedic approach. Ayurvedic treatment was administered for a period of 70 days. Assessment of the patient was performed before and after treatment using subjective and objective parameters. Significant improvement was observed in all the scores after treatment. This case study shows that fissured tongue can be successfully managed by Ayurvedic treatment.
