Modelling the Volumetric Behavior of Bonded Stiff Clay during Wetting-Drying Cycles
Abstract A modified BExM model is presented to investigate the impact of wetting-drying cycles on the volumetric behavior of bonded stiff clay. Based on test results of intact and compacted stiff clay subjected to wetting-drying cycles, some hypotheses on account of two structures of bonds and clay matrix are proposed. The volumetric coupling between both structures is defined through a series of damage parameters and strain partitions. A mathematical formulation of the model is described and its performance is finally assessed by comparison with laboratory tests.
