Community Interaction with Mangroves as a Nature-based Solution in the Mangrove Forest of Southern Bali

Abstract This study examines community interactions with mangroves as a nature-based solution in Southern Bali, focusing on awareness levels, participation in coastal management, and factors influencing engagement. Key findings include: 1. Demographic variations in mangrove awareness, with younger and more educated individuals showing higher awareness levels. 2. Occupational differences in awareness, with those directly dependent on coastal resources demonstrating greater understanding. 3. Critical role of disaster risk reduction (DRR) training in fostering community participation in coastal management activities. 4. Strong correlation between awareness of coastal zoning policies and engagement in ecological restoration efforts. 5. Weaker influence of general awareness about management plans or penalties on participation. The research highlights the need for targeted educational programs, community-based initiatives, and participatory approaches to enhance mangrove conservation and sustainable coastal management. By addressing demographic disparities and leveraging effective training methods, communities can be empowered to actively contribute to preserving these vital ecosystems, ultimately enhancing coastal resilience. The study underscores the importance of a multifaceted approach to community engagement in mangrove conservation, combining formal education, practical training, and awareness-raising initiatives tailored to local contexts.
