Fe/MoS2/graphite lamellar composites: Ultra-thin electromagnetic wave absorbers with mass production potential

Ferromagnetic materials , with their large saturation magnetization and anisotropic fields, are often considered as candidates for microwave absorption materials. However, their single form of loss limits their ability to absorb electromagnetic waves , restricting their applications. In this study, a high-energy ball milling method was used to composite MoS₂ and graphite with different proportions to synthesize sheet-like Fe/MoS₂/graphite composite materials, improving their dielectric loss ability. The microscopic structure shows that the doping of MoS₂ and graphite effectively increased the shape anisotropy of the material, enlarged the specific surface area, accelerated the rate of electron transfer , and enriched the ways of electromagnetic wave loss, enhancing the ability to absorb electromagnetic waves . The material exhibited excellent microwave absorption properties, achieving a minimum reflection loss of −58.37 dB at a matching thickness of 2.82 mm. This unique doping method provides new insights and approaches for the large-scale preparation of electromagnetic wave absorption materials . • MoS 2 layered composite absorbing materials were prepared using the high-energy ball milling method, which is suitable for large-scale production and has great industrial potential. • By adjusting the ratio of Fe to MoS 2 /graphite, the structure and electromagnetic properties of the composites can be tuned. • Microwave absorbing materials prepared by this method feature high yield, simplicity, excellent performance, and low preparation cost.
