Orthogonally polarized Sm:YLF/Sm:LLF orange lasers with output power-ratio and wavelength tuning

A continuous-wave (CW) orthogonally polarized dual-wavelength (OPDW) Sm 3+ :LiYF 4 /Sm 3+ :LiLuF 4 (Sm:YLF/Sm:LLF) orange laser at 605 and 606 nm on the 4 G 5/2 → 6 H 7/2 transition with power-ratio tuning was demonstrated for the first time. The waist position of the pump beam were optimized to achieve high efficiency and balanced output powers of the OPDW orange laser. Under pumping with a frequency-doubled optically pumped semiconductor laser (2ω-OPSL) emitting 10 W at 479 nm, an OPDW orange laser at 605 and 606 nm was obtained with the highest total output power of 1.41 W. The highest total optical-to-optical conversion efficiency with respect to the absorbed pump power was 16.5 %. Furthermore, a CW OPDW Sm:YLF/Sm:LLF orange laser with wavelength tuning was also studied. The nine pairs of the OPDW orange lasers were realized by adjusting the Lyot filters. The highest total output power of 1.68 W was obtained at 605 and 606 nm with power ratio of 1:1, resulting in an optical-to-optical conversion efficiency of 22.5 % with respect to the absorbed pump power.
