Embracing Contradictions: A Vedic Framework for Harmonizing Decision Making in AI
This research paper introduces a framework that employs tri-valued Vedantic logic to enable deduction in the presence of contradictions. The framework draws primarily on Adi Shankracharya's Advaita Vedanta, which outlines three states of logic - Truth, False, and Mithya (which is a super-imposition of False over True). The presented framework is applied to derive conclusions from paradoxical situations, and we demonstrate its use in the famous trolley problem with the use of para-consistent logic system. In particular, we examine how the presence of multiple points of view or ethical frameworks alters the truth value of a given statement. This paper contributes to the development of AI systems that can handle ethical ambiguity by using tri-valued logic from the Vedantic tradition. We will also touch upon the idea of explainability and demonstrate how tri-valued logic system can enhance the capability of a machine to explain its decisions by giving it an additional state of logic.
