Design and Development of an IoT -Enabled Vertical Hydroponic System
Agricultural productivity in Qatar is a significant challenge due to the prevalence of severe environmental conditions, limited water resources, and scarce arable land. To tackle this challenge, an Automated Vertical Hydroponics System (A VHS) for Controlled Environment Agriculture (CEA) has been developed. The AVHS utilizes the nutrient film technique (NFT) to optimize vertical space and improve crop yields in an indoor environment. Through the integration of Internet of Things (IoT) technology, the system autonomously regulates critical growth parameters, such as pH, electrical conductivity (EC), and ambient conditions, to ensure that optimal developing environments are maintained. The system also includes real-time monitoring, data acquisition, and live streaming to ensure precise control and continuous supervision. Results demonstrate the successful maintenance of stable pH and EC levels, ensuring healthy crop cultivation.
