Single-Fiber-Derived High-Order Mode-Group Selective Photonic Lantern
In this paper, a low-cost single-fiber-derived highorder mode-group selective photonic lantern is proposed. A single-fiber-derived fiber bundle of the photonic lantern is obtained by tapering a single type of fiber to different sizes for selectively exciting mode groups. A 13-core mode-group multiplexer is theoretically designed to excite LP21, LP31, LP41, LP51, and LP61, of which the largest crosstalk between them is better than -13.00 dB. An 11-core mode-group multiplexer is experimentally fabricated to excite LP31, LP41, and LP51. The results indicate that the single-fiber-derived high-order modegroup selective photonic lantern is feasible, which makes the lowcost high-order mode-group photonic lantern multiplexer possible.
