MILITARY GEO-INFORMATION SYSTEMS. APPLICATION AND DEVELOPMENT PROSPECTS

Planning and conducting military operations is a complex process that requires taking into account numerous factors with a high level of uncertainty and dynamism in real time. In combat conditions, access to reliable and up-to-date information is critically important, which serves as the basis for making operational decisions. In this case, the use of advanced technologies becomes important to increase situational awareness, ensuring a prompt response to changes in the combat environment, which significantly increases the effectiveness of command and the accuracy of decisions made. The concept of situational awareness characterizes a comprehensive analysis of the combat situation and includes the perception of environmental factors (terrain, weather conditions, location of enemy forces and own units, etc.), understanding their significance for minimizing threats and predicting possible changes. One of the tools of situational awareness in military operations is military geographic information systems. However, as shown by the full-scale aggression of russia against Ukraine, the capabilities of military geographic information systems have not yet been fully realized. The most radical changes in military geoinformation systems should be expected from the use of artificial intelligence technologies to implement the concept of a “smart battlefield”. The purpose of the article is to analyze the practice of the USA and NATO countries in using automated military command systems and military geoinformation systems to increase situational awareness, ensure situational awareness during a full-scale russian aggression against Ukraine, and also to provide proposals for improving the model of a military geoinformation system by integrating artificial intelligence technologies. The application of automated combat control systems and modern military geoinformation systems according to the practice of the USA and NATO countries is analyzed. The russian method of ensuring situational awareness during a full-scale aggression against Ukraine is summarized. The existing military systems used by the Armed Forces of Ukraine to collect, process and accumulate critically important information about the enemy to increase situational awareness when making command decisions, which allows ensuring the efficiency and effectiveness of military operations. The author's concept of improving the model of a military geoinformation system through the use of artificial intelligence technologies is presented, its structural scheme is developed according to the decomposition principle. Prospects for further research are outlined.
