Study on CO2 Capture Performance by Novel Phase-Change Absorbent of AEP/DEEA/H2O

Carbon capture, utilization, and sequestration (CCUS) technology is an effective solution for reducing CO2 emissions from ships. However, the high regeneration energy consumption of absorbents remains a significant challenge to CCUS, necessitating the development of high-performance absorbents. A phase-change absorbent, i.e., 1-(2-aminoethyl) piperazine (AEP)/diethylethanolamine (DEEA)/water (H2O), was investigated in this study. The optimal composition ratio of the absorbent was identified through absorption and desorption experiments, and the absorption and desorption performances were investigated. The reaction heat generated during CO2 absorption was measured using a differential scanning calorimeter, and the regeneration energy consumption was evaluated. The experimental results indicated that the optimal composition ratio of the absorbent was 11 wt % AEP + 59 wt % DEEA + 30 wt % H2O, and the regeneration energy consumption was 2.77 GJ/t CO2, 36.3% lower than 30 wt % ethanolamine (MEA) aqueous solution.
