Synthesis of Silver Nanoparticles using Mixed Plant Extract for Antibacterial and Catalytic Applications

One of the most important concern in the 21 st century is the demand for the green technology for the preparation of nanomaterials. This work presents the fabrication of green silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) with a combined plant leaf extract such as Azadirachta indica and Mangifera indica L. The mixture of leaf extract acts as a reducing and stabilizing agent. The presence of many phytochemicals in the mixture of plant leaf extract was confirmed by using Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectroscopy (GC-MS).The average size of obtained spherical particles is around 10.14 nm and confirmed by Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM).The zeta potential value of green AgNPs is -18.6 mV, indicating that the resulting AgNPs are more stable. The reduction of Ag + to Ag 0 was observed by the change in solution colour from yellow to brown. Also, a sharp absorption peak in the visible region (454 nm) indicates the formation of AgNPs.The prepared AgNPs were tested for antibacterial and antifungal activity using gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria.Using 10 ppm of prepared AgNPs as a reductant achieved a 75 % reduction of Rhodamine-B within 600 sec.The prepared AgNPs have a high zone of inhibition towards E. coli (30.47 mm), which is nearly equal to standard.
