This study evaluated the anti-aging effect of a mask containing Dryopteris crassirhizoma extract (mask DC) and astaxanthin on the skin anti-aging model in mice induced by D-galactose at a subcutaneously injected dose of 1000 mg/kg. The anti-aging effect of the mask was evaluated at the doses of 0.2 mL per time, once a day, and of 0.2 mL per time, twice a day, both applied for 42 days. The positive control was 1% vitamin E at the dose of 0.2 mL per day, also applied for 42 days. The results showed that at both doses the mask DC improved the macroscopic and microscopic appearance of mouse skin, increased skin moisture, increased hydroxyproline content, and decreased malondialdehyde content in mouse skin, as well as increased the thickness of the epidermis and dermis of mouse skin, compared to the model group (p < 0.05). This effect was equivalent to that of 1% vitamin E (0.2 mL per day). Thus, the mask containing Dryopteris crassirhizoma extract and astaxanthin showed anti-aging effects on mouse skin induced by D-galactose.
