Redefining Supply Chain Practices in the Textile Industry – Sustainable Development through Blockchain Technology

This research presents how blockchain technology can be applied in the textile industry within supply chain efficiency, transparency and resource usage. Due to its high water consumption, carbon emissions, and trash disposal, the textile industry is one of the most environmentally harmful sectors. However, blockchain provides a decentralized and immutable solution that will provide transparency in the origins of the products, minimize resource waste, follow the ethical sources of the product, and foster circular economy. It is claimed that the use of blockchain technology will eradicate overproduction while also lowering water and energy usage. The Indian company Sulochana Mills presents an example of how blockchain increases polyester circularity and guarantees sustainable procurement of raw materials. Furthermore, its potential of improving labor practices and implementing ethical sourcing in supply chain is also discussed. The study shows that blockchain can help improve sustainability, resource management and circularity of the textile industry and improve consumer and stakeholder trust. Therefore, the article supports the need to increase the use of blockchain in the textile industry to address sustainability and ethical concerns in supply chains.

Abstract

The study shows that blockchain can help improve sustainability, resource management and circularity of the textile industry and improve consumer and stakeholder trust. Therefore, the article supports the need to increase the use of blockchain in the textile industry to address sustainability and ethical concerns in supply chains.
