DISS AND ALFA PLANT FIBERS POTENTIAL INTO SLAG/GLASS POWDER METASILICATE-ACTIVATED BINDERS

Inorganic polymeric Alkali-Activated Binders (AABs) is a promising sustainable alternative for concrete technology today. In this work, alkali-activated vegetable fibers (VFs) with glass powder and slag (GP/S) were studied. The main objective of our study was to assess the engineering properties of GP/S mixtures with different native Algerian plant fibers: Alfa (A), Diss (D) along with Polypropylene fibers as reference fibers for comparison. Hence, Six mortars formulations were studied MC, MS, MSG, MSGA, MSGD and MSGP have been made. The conducted tests were flow, mechanical strengths, density/water porosity properties and thermal conductivity. The pastes were also tested by means of FTIR and SEM observations. The results show higher strength of Alkali-activated formulas especially at later ages in compression; lower mortar flow with AABs; density, porosity and thermal conductivity were slightly affected by the fibers. SEM observation exhibit mainly the formations of CSH and (C,N)ASH as hydration products.
