Critical Minerals Life Cycle Assessment (LCA): Sustainable Mining Practices
This study uses Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) to analyze the environmental impacts of critical minerals from extraction to disposal, aiming to minimize harm and improve social welfare. Guided by ISO 14040, the assessment identifies areas of improvement: cleaner technologies, energy efficiency, waste management, ecosystem conservation, community engagement and supportive policies. Reviewing studies from 2010 to 2024, it emphasizes collaboration between government, industry and communities for sustainable mining that aligns with global sustainability goals. Implementing these findings can drive long-term benefits across the environmental, economic and social dimensions of the mining sector. This comprehensive approach ensures that nickel mining and production activities are managed responsibly, promoting environmental sustainability and efficient resource utilization.
