Activating Parts Integration in Reconstruction of Historical Buildings Al-Nouri Mosque UNESCO Competition in Mosul
The research deals with the approaches and mechanisms on which policies are based on reconstructed historical buildings exposed to damage and demolition due to temporary circumstances such as wars or disasters. The study aims to shed light on the mechanisms of integrating parts of buildings and historical sites that have cultural value for the context in which they have been found, and the extent of activating these mechanisms in reconstruction procedures and techniques in destroyed cities. It also raises questions about the discrepancies in the procedures and solutions implemented, some of which are based on the knowledge and individual skills of the people. On the one hand, those are based on many theoretical analyses and studied scientific guesses. The study has been based on an inductive analysis of literature reviews and a deductive analysis of the descriptions submitted by participants in the international competition organized by UNESCO for the reconstruction of the Grand Al-Nouri Mosque in Mosul City as a case study. The study has concluded that there is a variation in the solutions provided by the participating architects and their distinction about the patterns and the formulas of integration of the parts of historical sites and evidence, according to the variation in personal experience and their architectural and professional expertise, as these processes develop special solutions to which the foundations and rules of rebuilding in a literal manner may not apply.
