Technology for developing a large-sized lens from optical crystals for the infrared spectral range

Subject of study. This study focuses on forecasting image quality for a large-sized, wide-angle, high-aperture lens designed for the infrared spectral range using optical crystals. Additionally, methods for optimizing lens design, assembly, and alignment are examined. Aim of study. The objective was to develop a high-tech lens design by considering the effects of optical homogeneity of materials, design and technological tolerances for surface shape, and lens decentering on image quality. Additionally, the feasibility of compensating for residual aberrations during the assembly and alignment of the optical system was assessed. Method. The methodology included selecting an image quality criterion and calculating the permissible degradation of quality, followed by distributing the wavefront error of the optical system among errors caused by optical material inhomogeneity, lens decentering, and surface form deviations. In addition, material homogeneity was assessed while considering the surface shape and optical paths within the lenses to explore optical system configurations and thus compensate for residual aberrations. The choice of a lens design with minimal alignment adjustments was validated. Main results. Criteria for selecting tolerances for optical material homogeneity are formulated. The feasibility of developing a high-tech, bulk, modular six-lens optical system using optical crystals, available materials, and existing technologies is confirmed. Practical significance. The proposed technical solutions have been tested through the development of high-resolution lenses for optoelectronic systems used in Earth remote sensing from space.
