PERCEPÇÕES E PERFIL DOS ACOMPANHANTES DE CRIANÇAS SUBMETIDOS A UM PROCEDIMENTO DE CIRURGIA PEDIÁTRICA

In the context of pediatric surgeries and their companions, it is important to highlight that, according to the Child and Adolescent Statute (Law 8,069), the child must be properly accompanied and assisted. Objective: The objective of this study was to determine the profile of children undergoing pediatric surgery and identify the main feelings and emotional impacts of companions. This is a descriptive research with a qualitative approach, carried out with 89 guardians at a university hospital in Rio de Janeiro, approved by the ethics committee (opinion no. 2,940,781). The majority of companions were women, mainly mothers (85.39%), followed by fathers (11.24%) and a grandmother (1.12%). The most common emotions reported were worry (39.68%), anxiety (25.40%) and fear (15.87%), with only 4.76% mentioning happiness or confidence. Stress and nervousness were also mentioned (7.94%), generally associated with worry or anxiety. More than half of companions (55.06%) were facing the situation for the first time, which intensified negative emotions. The study highlights the importance of companions for the emotional well-being and recovery of children in pediatric surgeries, highlighting the need for effective communication between the healthcare team and those responsible to reduce anxiety and promote recovery.
