New data on the dynamics of cultural development and development of the middle reaches of the Dema River in the Bronze Age (Southern Urals)
Over a period of more than 50 years of research on Bronze Age monuments in the middle reaches of the Dema River, more than 10 sites have been identified and surveyed. These include both small set tlements and large burial mounds. However, the main array of the studied monuments belongs to the log cabin culture. In turn, the Abashev culture is represented only by necropolises, and there are no settlements at all. It was with the aim of resolving this situation that the Department of Archaeological Research of the IIAL UFIC RAS conducted exploration work in 2022 and 2023. The total length of the route was about 40 km. As a result of the work, 5 new monuments of the Bronze Age were identified: the settlements of Shingak-Kul-1 and 2, Nizh nekhozyatovo-5, Klyashevo-1 and Novy Bekadak-1. All the monuments are dedicated to the banks of the Dema River and its tributaries. Kaziyaz and the Big Bastard. They are located on the capes (Novy Berkadak-1, Shingak Kul-2), the terrace (Shingak-Kul-1) and near the river bank (Klyashevo-1). The identified monuments of the Bronze Age represent fairly large settlements (with the exception of Shingak-Kul-2). Of the five identified mon uments, two settlements (Nizhnekhozyatovo-5 and Novy Berkadak-1) are multi-layered and contain log and Abashevite material, which generally lies in a single layer. It is worth highlighting the settlement of Novy Berka dak-1, where, in addition to the material of the Srubnaya and Abashevskaya cultures, fragments of molded clay vessels dating back to the Chalcolithic era and the final stage of the Bronze Age (Sargara-Alekseevskaya culture) were discovered. The results obtained confirm the assumptions about the settlement of both the Srubny and Abashev tribes along the Dema River and their dense settlement. The presence of Abashevskaya and log settle ment monuments confirms the mutual influence of these two cultures. All this together makes it possible to consider the territory near the Dema River as a model for the study of Abashevskaya and Srubnaya cultures.
