Play it safe: wear a mouthguard
Athletes who don’t wear a mouthguard when playing on team sports, like soccer, football, and basketball, are twice as likely to suffer a mouth or face injury than those who wear one.1 But injuries do not only occur in team sports. Many individual sports and activities carry the risk of injury to the face or mouth. That is why mouthguards should be worn by athletes whether they are playing contact sports, team sports, or individual sports.
