Developing Optimized Nanopaint for Building Thermal Reduction in Passive Cooling Using Taguchi Method
Passive cooling plays a pivotal role in maintaining thermal comfort within green buildings, particularly in tropical environments characterized by high temperatures and humidity. For building coating, bio-nanocomposites which are in nano-sized biomass wastes are used as an additive in nanopaint to improve its thermal properties especially in reducing temperature and to provide thermal comfort. The purposes of this study were to investigate the thermal reduction of nanopaint by assessing the changes of temperature with different ratios of polymer composite and bio-nanocomposite additives in the nanopaint mixture and to identify the optimum efficiency of nanopaint coatings in adjusting temperature reduction for passive cooling using Taguchi method orthogonal array L9. A series of thermal performance study was analysed including temperature reduction between ambient temperature and indoor surface including the efficiency of different coating mixtures on plastered solid-block prototypes’ surfaces. The result showed that the polymer nanocomposite paint with ratio 1:4 and 3% nano biomass (A3, B2) was the optimum mixture of nanopaint in reducing indoor temperature with the mean efficiency of 7.3% heat reduction during daytime and 5.5% of efficiency to remain warm at nighttime for passive cooling.
