Geological risk assessment on rock cultural monuments on the territory of the Eastern Rhodopes, Bulgaria: National Science Fund project

With this study, we are launching a project "Geological risk assessment on rock cultural monuments on the territory of the Eastern Rhodopes" supported by the Bulgarian National Science Fund (2025–2027). The project aims to develop a methodology for assessing the geological risks threatening the rock cultural monuments in the Eastern Rhodopes, Bulgaria. The region was chosen due to its rich archaeological and historical heritage, featuring monuments from various eras, and the need to protect them from destructive geological processes. The research team's task is to further develop the heuristic risk assessment methods applied in Europe and provide a more detailed assessment of the risk and its economic aspects.
