Hardening of cutting edge of tool in nitrogen atmosphere

The material on hardening in various technological atmospheres under the influence of thermal, mechanical and chemical energy is considered, which ensures the production of a defect-free surface layer on the metal working edge with the formation of local areas of high hardness at the location of microcracks extending to the edge of the tool. Methods for calculating the trajectory of a tool hardened in liquid nitrogen are shown, which make it possible to obtain highly resistant cutting tools. An assessment of the energy consumption of the hardening process in liquid nitrogen has been carried out, which is the basis for testing production manufacturability when developing a new technological process for hardening tools The experience and features of the organization of sites for edge hardening of cutting tools at machinebuilding enterprises are highlighted. The possibility and expediency of using the process under study for a medical instrument in order to increase the resistance and eliminate microdefects that contribute to the spread of infections is shown.
