An IMFOGI Based Control for a SPVA-BES-SRDG Based Microgrid for Remote Dwelling Zones
Power quality issues are predominantly observed in islanded microgrids operating in remote dwellings. These remote microgrids are often connected to a diesel generator (DG) set. Connected nonlinear loads drawing distorted and unbalanced currents also demean current and voltage harmonic profiles of DG set, thereby increasing its losses and fuel consumption. Nonlinear loads also degrade overall system power quality, which affects overall cost of energy produced. To solve this power quality issue, this work presents a sixth order generalized integrator (GI) based improved mixed fifth order GI (IMFOGI) filter having sufficient harmonic and DC attenuation ability without compromising dynamic response compared to similar higher order GI based filter. System under consideration to demonstrate efficacy of presented control comprises of a solar photovoltaic array (SPVA) connected with a battery energy storage (BES). It also comprises a synchronous reluctance generator coupled to a diesel engine set (SRDG). Control utilizes multifunctional ability of voltage source converter (VSC) of SPVA to mitigate harmonics and, makes system operation committed to the IEEE std. 519-2022. Control is also responsible to operate SRDG at its fuel economic zone (FEZ). Performance of control is validated using simulation and experimental test cases.
