Preparation of self-assembly grown Pt nanoparticles embedded SmNiO3 thin films by pulsed laser deposition technique

Abstract We report preparation of a Pt-SmNiO 3 nanocomposite thin film via self-assembly growth using pulsed laser deposition utilizing mixture target composed of oxide and PtO 2 as a Pt source taking advantage of its optical property. This method successfully produced the Pt-SmNiO 3 nanocomposite structure in which 10 nm sized Pt nanoparticles are embedded in a SmNiO 3 matrix at ∼100 nm intervals, and it demonstrated substantial hydrogen storage capability by catalytic reaction of densely distributed Pt nanoparticles. This approach is an effective method for enhancing catalytic doping functionalities by combination between noble metal and metal oxide three-dimensional heterointerfaces.
