Modified adaptive fuzzy logic based real-time MPPT controller for fuel cell framework management under dynamic conditions

Abstract The response of a fuel cell (FC) depends on the water content of the membrane and cell temperature. These are the two main operational factors which affect the power production of an FC. Therefore, every time maximum power point (MPP) on the (Power—Current) curve of the FC is distinct. To enhance the power production of the FC, the maximum power point tracking (MPPT) technique is implemented. In this paper, a Modified Adaptive Fuzzy Logic (MAFL) based MPPT technique has been used for the FC framework. For this, FC module is connected to the boost converter in which proposed MPPT technique is implemented in MATLAB/Simulink and validated using real-time OPAL-RT based hardware setup. In order to prove the efficacy of the proposed MPPT controller i.e. combination of modified Fuzzy Logic Controller (FLC) and adaptive Perturb and Observe (P&O) controller. From the comparisons, it is found that the proposed MAFL based MPPT controller provides the best and smoothest results. It also reduces the steady-state power fluctuations and boosts transient response as compared to other specified MPPT controllers.
