The Potential of Video Games in Political Education and the Formation of National and State Identity of Youth
The presented study is devoted to the study of the potential of video games in political education and the formation of national and state identity of young people. The research methodology is built on the basis of a combination of a formative experiment, case study and questionnaires. The video game “Immortal Symphony” served as a case study. The results of the conducted research confirm that gaining gaming experience can significantly increase the degree of integrity of the observed object, which significantly limits the size of the area of ideas about it, reconstructed by the gamer independently due to the work of the categorization mechanism. At the same time, players form new stereotypes of perception and emotionally charged sensory images. The process of understanding new information for most participants proceeded within the framework of a uniform reaction, which indirectly indicates a fairly high level of trust in game narratives. The obtained results confirm the presence of significant potential in video games in terms of the formation of national and state identity and solving the problems of political education.
