Reflective Analog Predistorter with Tunable AM/AM Compensation and Constant AM/PM Conversion

This paper presents a novel analog predistortion linearizer with only tunable amplitude compensation, whose phase characteristics remain constant. Based on a reflective structure, including the Schottky diode and varactor diode, this linearizer implements a simple circuit structure. By tuning the bias voltage of the varactor diode, the AM/AM characteristic of the circuit can be adjusted, while the AM/PM conversion is basically unchanged over the input power range. In order to validate the proposed circuit structure, a linearizer is designed and simulated at 14-14.5 GHZ. Simulation results show that the amplitude compensation of the linearizer ranges from 4.9dB to 7.5dB, while the phase compensation remains around 4°. This linearizer is suitable for the linearization of Solid-state power amplifier (SSPA), and also can be utilized to realize the independent tuning of AM/AM compensation for the complex linearizer structure.
