WiFi and Passive IoT Symbiotic Communication System Architecture
In recent years, symbiotic communication (SC) has received widespread attention due to its reciprocal sharing characteristics in the spectrum and energy domains. This paper investigates a WiFi and passive Internet-of-Things (IoT) symbiotic communication system, providing a new solution for addressing issues such as item recognition and management, real-time data monitoring and response in smart homes and retail stores. In this system, the secondary system utilizes the spectrum and Radio Frequency (RF) energy of the primary system to achieve backscatter communication (BC). The transmission of the secondary system can provide multipath signals to the primary system, which is expected to improve the performance of the primary system. The paper first introduces the basic concepts and technical principles of SC, and summarizes the research status from the aspects of system architecture, performance improvement, energy efficiency optimization, etc. Then, in response to the functional and performance requirements of indoor scenario such as smart homes and retail stores, a WiFi and Passive IoT Symbiotic Communication (WPISC) System Architecture is constructed, while completing the design of core modules such as tags and terminals. Finally, the paper compares and analyzes WPISC system with passive IoT system, pointing out the challenges faced by WPISC system and its future development directions.
