ORGANIZATION OF EMERGENCY AND URGENT OPHTHALMOLOGICAL CARE FOR VISUAL INJURIES AT STAGE III

Purpose – to assess the characteristics of the frequency of primary emergency visits due to eye injuries at the III stage of ophthalmological care in Azerbaijan. Material and methods The materials from emergency visits to the National Ophthalmology Centre named after Academician Zarifa Aliyeva were analyzed for all cases of emergency treatment due to eye trauma during the calendar year. The appeals were categorized based on the districts and cities of republican subordination where the injuries occurred. The frequency of visits per 100,000 population was calculated. Results The lowest application rate was observed in the city of Ganja (7.5±1.49 0⁄0000), and the highest rate was recorded in Siyazan district (47.1±10.530⁄0000). In districts where the branches of the National Ophthalmology Centre named after Academician Zarifa Aliyeva are functioning (Masalli, Ganja, Sheki) the frequency of visits at the III stage was lower (10.6±1.1; 14.4±1.0; 15.3±1.70⁄0000, respectively) and in other regions (Highland Shirvan, Aran, and Guba-Khachmaz) was relatively more (15.5 ± 1.7 - 29.8 ± 3.10⁄0000). Conclusion The general rate of urgent applications resulting from eye traumas at the III stage of ophthalmological care in Azerbaijan was 21.2±0.480⁄0000, and this indicator varied between 7.5±1.49 – 47.1±10.530⁄0000 in districts and cities of republican subordination Key words: eye trauma, urgent application, ophthalmological care, regional features
