Attenuation characteristics of the polarized light under different concentrations of sea fog

Influenced by the oceanic atmospheric circulation, sea fog particles show different distribution states in the vertically upward troposphere. According to the characteristics of the oceanic atmospheric environment, the distribution of sea fog particles is stratified, and the sea fog is divided into salt fog layer, water fog layer, and aerosol layer. The multiple scattering parameters of the particles are calculated based on the T-matrix algorithm and the multi-layer Monte Carlo simulation model to analyze the scattering behavior of photons after colliding with different sea fog particles. Then, the multi-layer sea fog environment simulation device was designed and constructed to conduct laser transmission test experiments, discuss the degree of polarization (DOP) attenuation change law of laser in different concentrations of sea fog environment, and equate and characterize different concentrations of sea fog through optical thickness. The results show that the DOP attenuation in the salt fog layer is significantly higher than the water fog layer and aerosol layer during the uplink transmission of the laser. Additionally, the longer the wavelength, the stronger the ability to maintain the polarization state of the polarized light. As the optical thickness increases, the advantage of the DOP for longer wavelength light becomes more obvious. The attenuation rate of the circularly polarized light is smaller than that of the linearly polarized light. The DOP difference between the linearly polarized light and the circularly polarized light gradually increases as the optical thickness increases. Finally, the consistency between the simulation and experimental test results is verified, and the conformity of the two is higher than 75%.
