Electrosynthesis processes based on oxidative couplings of porphyrins
The review will focus on oligoporphyrin and porphyrin arrays formed through reactions directly involving porphyrin macrocycles, particularly in their oxidized states. Porphyrin macrocycles can undergo oxidation to produce [Formula: see text]-radical cations and, subsequently, dications, which are highly reactive intermediates. These oxidized porphyrins can engage in reactions with nucleophilic groups or undergo self-coupling to form porphyrin oligomers or polymers. While conventional chemical oxidants can facilitate these processes, a key advantage of using oxidized porphyrins lies in their ability to be generated through electrochemical oxidation. This method avoids the need for chemical oxidants, offering a unique electrochemical route for synthesizing supramolecular assemblies based on porphyrin macrocycles.
