Dual interfascial plane blocks for perioperative analgesia in circumferential lumbosacral spine fusion: A case report

Circumferential lumbosacral spine fusion (CLSF) combines anterior lumbar interbody fusion and posterior supplementary fixation, presenting significant challenges in perioperative pain management. Effective multimodal analgesia, including targeted regional analgesia (RA), is essential for optimizing surgical outcomes and recovery. This case report describes the novel application of dual interfascial plane blocks—iliohypogastric-ilioinguinal nerve block in the transversus abdominis plane and sacral multifidus plane block—for perioperative pain management in a 64-year-old male undergoing CLSF for L5-S1 grade 2 spondylolisthesis. This case highlights the potential efficacy of combining these two procedure specific RA techniques for a comfortable perioperative course in CLSF surgeries.

Effective multimodal analgesia, including targeted regional analgesia (RA), is essential for optimizing surgical outcomes and recovery. This case highlights the potential efficacy of combining these two procedure specific RA techniques for a comfortable perioperative course in CLSF surgeries.
