Role of Populus sowietica × pyramidalis and Populus balsamifera in forming of urban environment conditions

Research was conducted on microclimatic parameters and physical air pollutants in various functional zones of the city of Yoshkar-Ola. An analysis of the degree of participation of several species of the genus Populus in the formation of the urban environment was carried out. A higher efficiency of performing the environment-forming function by individuals of Populus sowietica × pyramidalis was revealed compared to Populus balsamifera . On average, P. sowietica × pyramidalis reduced the negative impact of urban environmental factors (air temperature, air velocity, SO 2 , CO 2 and NO 2 content in the air, noise pollution level) 1.5-2 times better than balsam poplar. When landscaping cities, it is recommended to give preference to the Soviet pyramidal poplar.
