Post-industrial Landscape Planning and Design in the Context of Urban Renewal--Changchun Water Culture Ecological Park as an example
This paper delves into the realm of post-industrial landscape planning and design within the urban renewal framework, with a particular focus on the illustrative case of Changchun Water Culture Ecological Park. Originally established as a water purification facility, this site has been repurposed as a paradigm for the conservation and transformation of industrial heritage. Through a meticulous analysis of this case study, we extract pivotal design principles that emphasize the preservation of historical memory, the integration of diverse functions, the infusion of human-centric design, and the promotion of green ecology. The overarching goal is to metamorphose the industrial site into a novel public space through a strategic and multifaceted approach. The project's success in transforming a once-neglected area into a vibrant hub serves as a tangible example for the planning and design of industrial landscapes within the broader scope of urban renewal. In terms of design strategy, the paper presents a compendium of design concepts tailored for industrial landscapes, addressing three critical dimensions: enhancing the connectivity of internal and external flows, invigorating activity nodes, and fostering a dynamic dialogue between human activities and the natural environment. These strategies collectively contribute to the revitalization of post-industrial sites, offering a blueprint for future urban landscape interventions.
