Examining the Environmental Impact of High-Powered Computing
The carbon emissions of High-Powered Computing (HPC) energy consumption impact the environment. This article establishes a series of models to study the impact of HPC energy consumption carbon emissions on the environment. It proposes corresponding suggestions to reduce the effects of HPC carbon emissions on the environment. This paper develops mathematical models and formulas to analyze the global energy consumption and environmental impact of HPC regarding full capacity and average utilization. Based on this dynamic model, energy consumption and carbon emissions were calculated for three scenarios in 2030. The model was corrected by introducing a proportionate increase in carbon emissions, and the corresponding reduction in carbon emissions was estimated to be 23 ppm (420.0 ppm surface CO2 concentration in 2024). At the same time, the model calculations revealed a carbon reduction of approximately 30% for energy consumption of high-performance concrete. Based on this, key water resource factors were identified, and the environmental impact of high-performance concrete was further analyzed. Finally, a series of recommendations for reducing the ecological impact of HPC were made, which were included in the model and applied to specific examples.
