A Dual -Weighting TOPSIS Approach to Evaluating Olympic Sports
This study develops a framework combining entropy weight, AHP, and TOPSIS to evaluate Olympic sports based on six criteria: popularity, gender equity, sustainability, inclusivity, innovation, and safety. Validated with current sports, soccer ranked highest for global appeal, basketball scored well in youth engagement and gender equity, and swimming excelled in sustainability. Track and field had high participation but lacked innovation, while table tennis and badminton were cost-efficient but less visible globally. Future trends like drone racing and AI-integrated sports offer opportunities for 2036 and beyond. The framework ensures a balanced, transparent selection process, aligning the Olympics with evolving societal values and maintaining global inclusivity.
