Application of Metal Nanoparticles in the Treatment of Periodontitis

Periodontitis is a common chronic inflammatory disease of the oral cavity, and traditional treatment methods have certain limitations. Metal nano-ions, with their unique physical and chemical properties and biological characteristics, have shown potential in various aspects of the treatment of periodontitis. They possess high antibacterial activity and good biocompatibility, can regulate inflammatory responses, and promote periodontal tissue regeneration. Through local application, systemic application, or in combination with other treatment methods, metal nano-ions have achieved certain clinical effects. However, issues such as long-term safety, dosage control, and the cost-effectiveness of nanoparticle drug delivery systems still need to be addressed. Further research is required in the future to optimize the application of metal nano-ions in the treatment of periodontitis, providing safer and more effective treatment options for patients with periodontitis.
