A Silk Fibroin Based Conductive Fibrous Scaffold for Enhanced Growth of Neuron Cells Under Electrical Stimulation

ABSTRACT The development of conductive scaffolds has emerged as a promising strategy to enhance cell proliferation and differentiation by leveraging the electrical properties of biomaterials to stimulate cellular behaviors. This study initially prepared polypyrrole‐modified Silk Fibroin (PPy/SF) composite scaffolds by in situ polymerization of PPy on SF fibers through electrospinning and in situ interface polymerization methods. The results demonstrated that modification of PPy can improve the thermal stability of SF and mechanical strength. Cytotoxicity experiments showed that the PPy/SF nanofiber scaffold has good cytocompatibility. PPy modification significantly enhanced the conductivity of SF scaffolds and promoted the proliferation and migration of PC‐12 cells at 200 mV. The findings of this study will provide significant scientific evidence for the development of bioactive materials for promoting the proliferation and differentiation of biological cells and wound healing.
