Analysis of the Influence of Fiber Winding on the Performance of Interferometric Fiber-Optic Accelerometer based on Spring-mass Structure
In this paper, we theoretically and experimentally analyze the influence of fiber winding on the performance of an interferometric fiber-optic accelerometer. The working principle of the fiber-optic accelerometer, based on a spring-mass structure, is presented. Both theoretical analysis and experimental results indicate that increasing the number of turns in the fiber enhances the sensitivity and the resonant frequency of the sensor simultaneously. The highest sensitivity of the sensor is 112 rad/g, while the resonant frequency is 814 Hz. Additionally, we used finite-element analysis to predict the sensitivity of the multi-layer fiber-winding accelerometer. The error between the sensitivity of the two prototype sensors and the simulated sensitivity is less than 5%. The amplitude-frequency response experiment results show that for a constant sensing fiber length, the resonance frequency of the multi-layer winding accelerometer increases, while the sensitivity decreases compared to the single-layer winding accelerometer. The analysis presented in this paper has guiding significance for the performance optimization of interferometric fiber-optic accelerometers.
