Evaluation of the Distance of Morphometric Measurements Taken from the Auricles of Individuals with Different Somatotype to the Midline of the Face
Aim: The purpose of this study is to examine the relationship between the measurements taken from the auricle to the midline of the face and somatotype and body composition. Material and method: 100 female and 100 male individuals participated in the study. The subjects were photographed from the anterior, right and left lateral profiles in the “Frankfurt Horizontal Plane” from a distance of 1.5 meters. 18 linear distance measurements were calculated for each ear region. For indirect anthropometric measurements, measurements were made using the photographs using the Image J program. 10 different anthropometric measurements were taken from the subjects to determine the somatotype. Diameter measurements of 2 different regions (knee and elbow), skinfold thickness (SFT) of 4 different regions (triceps, subscapular, supraspinale, calf), circumference measurements of the upper arm and lower leg with contraction, height measurements, and weight measurements were calculated. Somatotypes were determined using the Heath- Carter formula. Results: Using the Heath-Carter formula, 6 different somatotypes were determined in women and 5 in men. According to the Kruskal Wallis H test results, the parameters measured to determine the somatotype in men and women showed statistically significant differences (p<0.05). No statistically significant difference was found in the measurements taken from the auricle to the midline of the face in terms of somatotypes (p>0.05). Conclusion: As a result of this study, it was determined that somatotypic differences did not create a difference in the measurements taken from the auricle to the midline of the face. We believe that the data obtained from this study will be guiding for surgical branches, facial aesthetics and scientists working on ear morphometry. Keywords: Auricle, morphometry, anthropometry
