Information and Communication Technologies as a Focus for Regional Development in the State of Rondônia
Introduction: The development of a region, today, goes beyond the access provided by Information and Communication Technologies that occupy a prominent position in modern society, and play a relevant role in the occurrence of economic and social transformations in a given region of the country, as is the case of the state of Rondônia. Objective: The objective of this study is to address the analysis of the relationships established between telecommunications technology infrastructures and the economic and social development of the most remote and least favored regions, focusing on the contributions that these telecommunications technology infrastructures provide to promote the development of these locations. Theoretical Framework: The research addresses a theoretical line that highlights the role of the internet and communication technologies in creating connections between distant regions, facilitating the exchange of information and economic development. It is also highlighted that the expansion of technological infrastructure is crucial to ensure that the most isolated communities can enjoy the benefits. Method: The methodological approach used involves a bibliographic study based on technical records identified in internet accesses, taking such records as a basis for statements made about technological data, alongside theoretical discussions by scholars on the subject. Results and Discussion: The results indicate that modern information networks play a crucial role in society, driving economic and social development. These networks have become essential for growth and progress in many areas. Connectivity and access to information are key factors for progress and fundamental for sustainable development. Research Implications: The research contributes to the debate on Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) as a vector for regional development in Rondônia, providing insights into the challenges and opportunities for strengthening ICTs in fostering the development of distant and isolated communities. Originality/Value: This study makes an original contribution to the literature by exploring the relationship between the growth of telecommunications infrastructure and its social and economic impact in a historically isolated region such as Rondônia. The innovative approach highlights the expansion of internet access and mobile telephony, reinforcing the improvement between connectivity and development. The relevance of the research is evident when it demonstrates that, despite the absence of consolidated models for this analysis, the data indicate a direct relationship between technology and regional growth. The results can influence public policies outside of digital inclusion, providing support for new strategies.
