Recycled Concrete Aggregate and Waste Fired Clayed Brick as Partial Fine Aggregate Replacement Materials

Utilizing discarded clay bricks from construction and demolition endeavours is made easier through incorporating fired clay bricks (FCB) and recycled coarse aggregate (RCA) into cement-based materials. Concrete production indeed surged hand in hand with the growth of the Malaysian economy. This study seeks to evaluate the strength and durability of bricks integrating recycled concrete aggregate (RCA) and waste-fired clay bricks (FCB) as partial substitutes for fine aggregate. The research indicates that bricks with 0% RCA and 2% FCB exhibit the highest compressive strength, while those with 15% RCA and 6% FCB demonstrate the lowest water absorption. Moreover, the research proposes that employing RCA and FCB as alternate options for natural fine aggregate could significantly decrease waste generated from concrete aggregate and FCB.
