SUNRISE-6G: Demonstrating 6G Federation Concepts over Distributed Research Infrastructures
Network federation in telecommunications has emerged as a crucial approach to expose aggregated network capabilities to future digital services, thus opening new revenue opportunities for Operators. Federation is therefore a key principle in the design of future 6G networks. To advance the state of the art in this domain, the SUNRISE-6G project aims to build a pan-European federation of 6G testbeds, enablers and experimentation tools. This paper details the design of the SUNRISE-6G's 3GPP and GSMA-compliant Federation Platform, outlining its architecture, functional roles, and critical interfaces such as CAMARA Application Programming Interfaces (APIs). Designed to support scalable, cross-domain application deployment, this Federation Platform provides advanced network services across multiple administrative domains, and exposes aggregated network capabilities to application functions, while ensuring the alignment with existing standards. Additionally, the paper details the technical requirements and relevant use cases of the SUNRISE-6G's Federation Platform.
