The heat is on
“Among humans, heat is meant to express warmth and love” is a paraphrased version of a quote attributed to Gene Roddenberry, the creator of Star Trek. That may be a metaphoric appreciation of “heat”. However, we are in the era of global warming, in which the heat is very much on. As we move into the summer months, it hardly feels like an expression of warmth and love. If due precautions are not taken, there is the very real risk of heat stroke, and other health issues. Heat is now thought to be the number one weather-related killer in the United States. Although not quantified as such, most health care workers are agreed about its dangers in India too. As for this Issue, we promise a number of cool stuff to read, and appreciate. There is an important Review of Informed Consent, a Perspective on snakebite cases, original articles that have studied a range of aspects in the applied and basic sciences, and a number of informative case reports. Along with recommending the perusal of this Issue of AJM, I would also advise all readers to take due precautions this summer. Stay hydrated and healthy. Financial support and sponsorship Nil.
