Analysis of Partial Discharge Development Characteristics in Different Temperatures
Partial discharge detection is commonly recognized as the most effective method for assessing insulation conditions and identifying faults in high-voltage power cables. During the partial discharge process, the Schottky effect is also triggered by temperature, whereby some electrons within the metal gain enough energy to surpass the potential barrier of the insulator. This has received insufficient attention in previous research. To investigate how temperature affects partial discharge characteristics in cables, this study employs a multi-physical field coupling simulation programme and finite element analysis approach to simulate common defects inside the high-voltage cable. Subsequently, the study examines the impact of temperature on partial discharge characteristics. The results suggest that a rise in temperature boosts the velocity of charge migration at the interface and the likelihood of electron escape. Furthermore, it reduces the generated electric field within the imperfections, which leads to an increase in discharges and their intensity.
