PLATELET-RICH PLASMA (PRP) AS A BIOMATERIAL FOR THE TREATMENT OF ANTERIOR TALOFIBULAR LIGAMENT IN LATERAL ANKLE SPRAIN

Lateral ankle sprains are one of the most common musculoskeletal injuries, often involving damage to the anterior talofibular ligament (ATFL).2 Recent advances in regenerative medicine have highlighted the potential of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) as a biomaterial to enhance ligament healing.5 This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of PRP in the treatment of ATFL injuries in patients with chronic or recurrent lateral ankle sprains.A total of 50 patients with diagnosed ATFL sprains were randomly assigned to either a PRP treatment group or a control group receiving standard rehabilitation.Outcomes were assessed through clinical examinations,MRI imaging, and functional scoring scales (e.g., American Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society Ankle-Hindfoot Scale). The results suggest that PRP injection significantly improved ligament healing, reduced pain, and enhanced functional recovery compared to standard treatment. These findings indicate that PRP may be an effective therapeutic option for patients suffering from chronic ATFL injuries.

These findings indicate that PRP may be an effective therapeutic option for patients suffering from chronic ATFL injuries.
