The undertaken comparison allows us to assess the linguistic specificity of the implementation of the intention of apology in Russian and Iranian speech practice, to identify etiquette and situational models of apology, as well as the presence / absence of linguistic transformations in translation. The analysis showed the presence of redundancy of the intention of apology in the story of A. P. Chekhov, due to the different social statuses of the communicants. Excessive self-condemnation can lead to the opposite effect.
