The Influence of Digital Economy on Carbon Emission under Dual-Carbon Goals: A Perspective on Green Technology Innovation

The digital economy and innovation in green technology have become vital factors in boosting sustainable economic activities, achieving the dual-carbon goal, and reducing the intensity of carbon emissions. Based on the panel data of 29 provinces in China from 2011 to 2020, this paper analyses the relationship between digital economy, innovation in green technology and the intensity of carbon emissions using the threshold effect model. The results are as follows: the digital economy plays a significantly positive role in reducing regional carbon emission intensity; with the evolution of the development stage of green technological innovation, the influence of the digital economy on carbon emission intensity shows a negative and increasing marginal effect of non-linear characteristics. The influence of digital economy and innovation of green technology on carbon emission intensity shows obvious heterogeneity in different regions, especially in the Northeast and the East, the synergistic effect of the two is more obvious, which can contribute to the carbon emission reduction in the region more effectively. Therefore, the government should adopt differentiated regional digital economy development policies to stimulate enterprises to carry out green innovation, so as to more efficiently promote the digital transformation in enterprise production, and thus achieve China's dual-carbon strategic goal.
